The Summer English Program at Plattsburgh (SEPP) is a three-week non-credit, highly interactive course designed for non-native, English-speaking university students and professionals who want to improve their English-language skills. SEPP is designed to prepare students and visitors for studying in a university in the United States or to use English professionally. The program will help you:

  • improve your ability to use English effectively.
  • learn how to communicate in an academic environment with instructors, fellow students, and others on campus.
  • develop language skills to help you study or work in the US.
  • practice reading, note-taking, and listening skills for lectures and presentations.

The program consists of approximately 18 hours of classes per week plus social and academic conversation, and instruction in research skills. Classes meet for three-four hours per day and coursework will focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and writing. In addition, role-playing activities will focus on developing skills for common experiences such as meeting with professors and interacting with the local community.  All instructors are native English speakers with extensive experience in teaching ESL courses.

Evenings and weekends will provide students with opportunities to practice their language skills through on and off campus experiences and trips to restaurants, shops, cultural and recreational destinations including Burlington, Vermont, Lake Placid, beaches on Lake Champlain, the Adirondack Mountains and other nearby attractions.

Participants who attend classes regularly and successfully complete coursework will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the program.
